Hausa is de tweede taal in Afrika, na het Swahili. Hausa is the second largest language in Africa, after Swahili. Sommigen van u weten wellicht dat Julius Nyerere zich in zijn vrije tijd bezig hield met het vertalen van Shakespeare in het Swahili. Some of you may be aware that Julius Nyrere spent his spare time translating Shakespeare into Swahili. Ik spreek hier geen Swahili, maar mijn eigen moedertaal, Iers, dat helaas de enige officiële taal is die niet in de Gemeenschap is opgenomen.
